Yeah! Davidson is getting a Bagel Shop!

Davidson, NC   It’s been a long time that we’ve said Davidson needs a bagel shop/deli where we can get breakfast or a good deli sandwich.  The Original New York Bagels is taking over the former TCBY spot near Harris Teeter by exit 30.  Way to go.  Can’t wait for a good bagel sandwich.

Mandolino’s Artisan Pizza – Opening Tuesday – Get ready for a great scene.

Davidson, NC    We were lucky to check out the newest Davidson restaurant at a pre-opening Friends and Family event Friday night.  First impression was great.  We were seated downstairs and had a great server.  The decor is cool with vintage-looking sketches of mandolin players on exposed brick walls.

Our server recommended a salad and pizza.  We had the green goddess dressing on romaine with feta, cucumbers and garbanzo beans (a “kitchen sink” salad).  The ingredients were so fresh and well prepared.    Our server also recommended the Tupelo Honey pizza.  A combo I would never imagine, but was outstanding.  Ricotta, Gorgonzola, Fig Honey, Calabrian Chiles, and Fresh Thyme.  Definitely was concerned about the heat of the chiles, but the honey offset so well.  Even my 9 year old picky eater loved. (he did pick off a couple chiles).

The portions are large,  The pizza is a sheet pan style with an amazing crust.  One pizza was too much food for us so we took some home.

Dessert was not needed, but we ordered a root beer float.   It was amazing.  Served in a fun jar with vanilla gelato and root beer.  Very cool presentation.

After dinner we checked out the upstairs of Mandolino’s.  It’s going to be a cool place to hang for a few drinks, listen to music or watch the game.

They open Tuesday and are worth a visit.  Our server said they will have outdoor seating eventually.  We heard they will start having live music later in the spring.  We are lucky to have a great variety of restaurants in Davidson, but Mandolino’s is a great addition to the scene.

Davidson Date Night – Apps at Flatiron

Davidson, NC    The bar at Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse in Davidson, NC is a fun spot to kick back, sip some wine and have a few apps on a Friday night.  It has a diverse crowd sprinkled with familiar faces and a hopping vibe.  Although they do have a nice selection of beers we chose to have the Spellbound Chardonnay and order some apps.   We split the North Carolina Chicken Wings, Taphouse Sliders and a Caesar Salad.  Everything came out at the same time as requested.  The wings were unique with African spices and a great sauce.  The sliders were delicious and prepared perfectly with quality meat and the right combo of toppings.  The Caesar Salad was cool and crisp with a nice dressing.  All in all we enjoyed our selections and look forward to sampling the menu further.  It was nice to kick back, eat some good food and have the Red Sox – Yankees game on.  Thanks Flatiron.

Dining Out – House of Taipei – Huntersville

Sunday Aug 6, 2017  We were looking to dine out in Davidson, but after realizing Concerts on the Green was in full swing, we decided to venture over to Huntersville.  A real estate client had mentioned that they had an amazing meal at House of Taipei near exit 25.  My local Asian favorites have always been Sabi in Davidson and Eez in Birkdale so I was intrigued to try something new.

When we arrived around 5:30, we were pleased to see a bunch of cars in the parking lot and when we entered the restaurant was half full.  The service was spot on.   We were shown to our table, given menus and immediately asked for drink orders.

The menu is varied with standard appetizers, main dishes and a section to customize your meal.  We started with the Crab Rangoon, which was excellent and easily shared.  I ordered the Taipei Delight $13.50 – Jumbo shrimp and chicken sauteed with red bell peppers, baby corn, & snow peas in a garlic sauce – excellent.  Came with white rice and was a large portion.  My youngest ordered Chicken Fried Rice $6.75 – he was very pleased.  My older son ordered a build-your-own Traditional Chinese Dished Dual with Chicken and Shrimp and an Orange Sauce he selected off their list $11.50 –  he thought it was great and plenty of food.

We left very impressed with the professional service, quality and selection of the food, and the size of the dining crowd on a Sunday night.  So please try House of Tapei – it is hidden gem in plain sight in Huntersville.

AboutDavidson.com does not get any compensation for reviews.  This is a fun service!  We like to eat out.
