Davidson Cookbook Author at Main Street Books – Great Gift Idea

Davidson, NC Small Business Saturday – November 27th 11am-1pm

Main Street Books will host Davidson Cookbook Author, Sheela Prakash, for a live book signing outside. If you go to The Farmer’s Market you may have seen Sheela as she is a regular shopper there. I purchased her cookbook and can attest that the recipes are great and easy to follow. Her drink recipes are also personal hits. This cookbook is an amazing gift for the holidays. If you can please come out and support Main Street Books and a local author. Thanks!

Event info – click here

ABOUT THE BOOK

Cook your way through 75+ simple yet tantalizing Mediterranean recipes that make the most of what’s in season.

Mediterranean Every Day embraces a style of cooking that celebrates flavor with a relaxed, flexible attitude. It’s simple enough for a quick family meal, but never out of place for a weekend gathering with friends. Alongside stunning photography, discover easy crowd-pleasers like Herby Ricotta; weeknight meals like One-Pan Sausage, Pepper, and Onion Bake; and desserts like Roasted Figs with Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt.

Beyond the recipes, this is a book that teaches how to build a wholesome, well-stocked pantry. Start off with an introduction to the Mediterranean style of cooking and then choose your own adventure:

Three-Ingredient (or Less) Snacks and Cocktails: Whether it’s a pre-dinner snack you crave or a simple cocktail to shake up for friends, you’ll find easy and fun ideas like Smoky White Bean Hummus, Za’atar Pistachios, and Honeyed Prosecco.

Salads and Soups: Enjoy creative salads like The Easiest Arugula Salad, Smoked Salmon Greek Salad, Peak-Summer Panzanella, and a must-try Niçoise. Hearty soups include Lemon Parmesan Soup with Beans and Greens and Roasted Greek Tomato Soup.

Beans, Grains, and Bready Things: This non-traditional chapter features a variety of main dish–worthy recipes that can also be served as sides. Celebrate the seasons with a Spicy Broccoli Rabe and Chickpea Skillet, Lentil Fritters with Herbed Yogurt Dip, a Cheesy Brussels Sprout and Farro Bake, and risotto ideas for winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Colorful Pastas: Who doesn’t love a diet that lets you eat pasta? Enjoy feel-good pastas that are heavy on vegetables. Recipes include Brown Butter Tortellini with Spinach and Hazelnuts, Melted Broccoli Pasta with Capers and Anchovies, Pasta with Burst Cherry Tomatoes and Swordfish, Israeli Couscous Salad with Herbs, Green Olives and Pistachios, and a No-Cook Summer Tomato Pasta.

Gathering Dishes: The chapter’s name says it all! Whether it’s Tuesday or Saturday, and whether you’re cooking for just your family or a handful of friends, gather around Salmon in Crazy Water, Thyme Pesto Roast Chicken with Crispy Potatoes, Roasted Cod Saltimbocca, and Baked Chicken Milanese with Lemony Escarole.

Desserts: Seasonal and fresh is at the heart of this chapter. Recipes include Greek Yogurt Panna Cotta, Apricot Almond Clafoutis, Rosé-Soaked Peaches, and Chocolate Olive Oil Cake.

Davidson Farmers Market – This Week

Hello DFM Shoppers,

DFM’s prime market season is in full swing! With 36 vendors, the variety of foods and goods is vibrant as well as the operations of these local, small businesses. Its a sight to see and a testament to the fervor our surrounding area has for local, North Carolina products.

If you attended or missed last week’s market, I want to remind everyone about our temporary layout during construction on the new gathering space behind Summit Coffee. Here are a few things to know to make your shopping experience the fullest:

You can enter the market from multiple locations (there is not a designated entrance or exit to the market);

There are three rows of vendors: two in the Jackson Street parking lot and one in the grassy area next to Davidson Family Medicine;

You can access the third row from Jackson Street with our designated cut through and re-enter Jackson Street at the top near DFM’s shed and market tent;

If you’re looking for a specific vendor and can’t find them, you can ask one of our Green Team Volunteers (the folks in green shirts) or stop by DFM’s tent; and

Market hours are 9am – Noon.

Speaking of volunteers. It takes a lot of dedicated volunteers to help setup and takedown the farmers market every weekend. Their generous help is tremendous and Courtney and I are so grateful to work with such kind and fun people. If you would like to volunteer this Saturday or any weekend this year, you can sign up here or email Courtney directly to learn more about DFM’s Green Team.

See you all this Saturday, rain or shine!

Happy eating,

Justin

The Vendors | Saturday, April 10

Don’t miss these items available at market:

Barbee Farms will have cole crop starter plants (broccoli, kale, cabbage, and collard) as well as rosemary plants; Gilcrest Natural Farm has beef products including ground beef, stir fry strips, stew beef, short ribs, and chorizo; Nonni’s Gourmet Kitchen has milk chocolate or white chocolate eggs filled with 4nut nutty brittle boxed with chocolate ducks, little eggs, bunnies, lambs and carrots for the Easter holidays and Spring treats; and Toro Loco Party Salsa has medium and mild salsa and mango salsa.

Everyone is here this week.

If you choose pre-order and do not plan to shop in-person, you can skip the line and pick up your pre-order from the Market Tent (the red tent to the right of the Market entrance). Just give your name and who you pre-ordered from and our DFM volunteers will get your order for you.

Davidson Farmers Market this week – see you there!

Head on over to the Farmers Market!

Hello DFM Shoppers,

Those that came to the market on Saturday, March, 6 –– thank you! The market looked a little different with construction happening between DFM and Summit Coffee causing a little confusion how to access the market, especially after a year with a dedicated entrance and exit in response to the pandemic. Those that arrived on the 6th were so respectful of the changes and maintained social distancing making the market a great success for our vendors and fellow shoppers. Thank you, again!

With most of the area fenced off, we decided to open the market up to allow shoppers easier, and safer, access. If you’re new to DFM in the last year, this is how the market used to be before Covid, and we’ve been eager to return to that layout once the pandemic is over. As construction continues until May, we will keep the market without an entrance, exit, and barriers. We do ask that our shoppers wait until 9am to enter the space where vendors are. At 9am we ring the market bell, loudly, to alert shoppers and vendors that the market has opened and shopping can begin. We do the same thing at noon when the market is closed. We are still requiring shoppers, vendors, staff, and volunteers to wear masks while at the market and maintain social distancing.

There are two winter markets left, 3/20 and 3/27, before the market’s full season opening on Saturday, April 3. During our full season there will be 36 vendors and the market operating every Saturday –– but more info about that in our upcoming newsletters.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday for another beautiful market.

Happy eating,

Justin
