Davidson, NC Have you hiked the West Branch Nature Preserve in Davidson? The beaver activity in there is very cool. The Preserve sits between Summer’s Walk and The Preserve at River Run. Parking is available in River Run on Shearer Road.

The hike in is very pretty along a dirt trail which is family friendly.

The bird viewing stand allows for great birdwatching. After you pass this you’ll start to see the beavers’ handiwork.

You will see the two beaver dams on the left.

I’ve read that beavers are beneficial to the environment. I recently listened to the Orvis Fly Fishing Podcast which featured beavers and their benefits to trout fisheries with the author of “Eager”. After that listen I had to go back and check them out in Davidson. Having them local is really interesting. I believe they are nocturnal so I didn’t plan on seeing any on my hike. Enjoy!!
