Davidson, NC We had a great hike in town Friday which you should try before the storm hits, West Branch Nature Preserve.
This trail/preserve runs between the River Run Greenway and the Summers Walk neighborhood in Davidson. You can start in River Run at the Greenway entrance on River Ford Drive or Park in the parking lot at the bottom of June Washam Road in The Preserve at River Run.
The Greenway is paved and the trail through the West Branch Nature Preserve is dirt and covered with leaves, but easy to follow. Along the way you’ll see and hear multiple bird species, evidence of recent beaver activity and a beautiful canopy of trees. The payoff is the observation platform which looks out over the marsh.
We ran into acclaimed local bird photographer Eric Keith (cornokeithphoto on Instagram) stalking birds on the trail with a giant lense.
So grab your binoculars and bring a sharp ear and enjoy this wonderful property dedicated to Roy Alexander, who worked very hard to preserve it. You may even see a red spotted newt.
