Stop by the store to chat with Todd Gallicano (author of Guardians of the Gryphon’s Claw), indulge in a free ice cream treat, enter to win a giveaway, and more!
Recruited by Dr. Vance Vantana, an eccentric zoologist and park ranger sent by the government, Guardians of the Gryphon’s Claw protagonist Sam is whisked away on an adventure that takes him to the farthest reaches of the globe. Along this journey, Sam learns an incredible truth: mythical creatures are real and living among us in our national parks. A special department in the U.S. government ensures that their existence remains hidden. But an omen suggests that the secret may now be in danger. Someone seeks the power to expose these creatures and overthrow humankind – and that power can only be found in a magical talisman known as the gryphon’s claw.
“A fun-filled start to a series that is sure to keep lovers of Rick Riordan running to the shelves.”-School Library Journal
“A death-defying, globe-spanning adventure, packed with creatures out of folklore and myth….[Guardians of the Gryphon’s Claw is] a solid series opener and debut for Gallicano, who stocks his story with engaging characters, human, and otherwise.”-Publishers Weekly

Based on Brain Dance research, Moving Stories with Camerin is a story time incorporating guided movement for kids aged 6 months to 6 years old.
This workshop combines dance, music, and stories to engage small movers and their caregivers in age appropriate mobility skill development. Movement is focused on Brain Dance techniques (Anne Green Gilbert) encouraging movement patterns that re-enforce the mind- body connection and contribute to brain development. Each class focuses on a book and uses the story as a catalyst for movement development and exploration. Care-givers are expected to interact one-on-one with their child, offering an exciting experience for student and care-giver alike.
Moving Stories is sponsored by CANNON SCHOOL, an independent JrK-12 college preparatory school.
Where’s Waldo? In Davidson, of course! The iconic children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting over 20 local businesses throughout our community this July. Find Waldo Local is a great summer vacation activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement in our community, including these partners: The Jewel Box, The Soda Shop, Ben & Jerry’s, South Main Sweet Shop, The Needlecraft Center, and Whit’s.
Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Davidson!” passport, which contains the names of all the participating sites, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot. Collecting store stamps or signatures at twenty or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers entry into a prize drawing.
This year marks both Waldo’s and Main Street Books’ thirtieth anniversary, and to celebrate, Main Street Books will throw a joint birthday party on July 30th at 2 pm. The whole town is invited to join in birthday games, indulge in snacks and sweets, find a good book, and witness the reveal of the Find Waldo Local prize winners.
